MOMA II Share Chair

Introduction

The Share Chair is the first of the MOMA II portable galleries to be completed. It was constructed in early 2023 by foundation artist David Freedom Rose from a discarded wheelchair found in the streets of Coburg North (Naarm, Australia) and new materials purchased from an advance on his Disability Support Pension. David commissioned local artist Bryan Itch to create the mural for the front wall and Bryan kindly went the extra mile and donated the design of the MOMA logo.

Features & Specs

The Share Chair gallery has two levels, essentially box like spaces designed for holding artworks to be brought out by a curatorial attendant and displayed to museum visitors. The lower box has a rear door which is hinged at the top - when full open and propped up by its folding tripod leg, this door forms a shelf on which artifacts and artworks can be placed for display.
The upper level 'box' is open at the back to provide another flat surface which can be utilized during the viewing process.



The image above shows that the main lower box area has a low shelf in it which is carrying a black box - this is actually an "Esky" which is rainproof, perfect for storing small artworks; it is also sturdy enough to sit on (so it can be kept out and provide a seat for the curatorial attendant. Of course that space can be occupied by other containers or shelving systems suitable for the needs of any particular exhibition.
